Our
base camp, Aquacade , is situated on the banks of the
mighty Orange River, South Africa’s longest river. Called the Gariep in
the local Nama tongue, this river is a lifeline in this inhospitable,
yet beautiful desert reserve. Bordering the Richtersveld national park,
which was declared a world heritage site in 2007, our camp is a pristine
oasis, offering all facilities to weary travellers.
The ablution facilities offers hot
showers and flush toilets. Situated in 2 blocks at both
ends of the camp, it is within a short walk from wherever you decide to
camp. We also have a sparkling pool, deck and restaurant.
Our
rustic bush bar, offers an array of local and international drinks and
if the mood is right, this quiet facility can change into quite a
festive mood.
Fishing in close proximity of the
camp is very good, with yellow fish and catfish/barbell being the most
common species caught. Fly-fishermen have brought in big yellows from
the rapid just opposite the camp.
We offer day rafting trips on the
Orange, taking guests on a leisurely paddle on
the mighty orange. We paddle
past majestic sedimentary sandstone cliffs, have the opportunity to do a 5m cliff jump or just lie back
and admire the beautiful gorges and other desert scenery.
For the more adventurous we also
offer 4 and 6 day Orange River Rafting expeditions into the Richtersveld National
park.
