The concept of African Rafting began many years back when we started as young, restless students, trying to sustain our way of life by earning some extra cash during holidays and having fun in the process. From being “handties” for the big boys of those times, to today where we run our own companies, the love for the many beautiful rivers in Africa still burn as strong as those wild, carefree days.
Pine Pienaar started The African Rafting Company in 2006
after being a guide for thirteen years. Described as “ants in the pants”, Jack Russell
etc, it is very difficult to keep him in the office, as he is always
on the move to find a new secret spot somewhere in the African
continent. With an uncommon passion for the Richtersveld, he is a
well-known face in this beautiful and remote wilderness area.
Harry Kielblock, currently doing his MBA in sustainable tourism development, is in charge of the River office, only because of the demands of this difficult course. He is out paddling however as soon as the studies allow him.
Mark De
Wet, currently doing his nature conservation degree through
Unisa, joined The African Rafting Company in July 2006. Working only
part-time as his art studies kept him otherwise occupied; he fell in
love with the river and its surroundings. Now that he has more time on
his hands, he leads a lot of trips on the Orange and Breede Rivers.
With his background as a Springbok scout, Mark shows an uncanny
understanding of the intricate balance of nature and its many
eco-systems.
Jean du Preez, long time friend of
Mark, join ARC in September 2007. An extremely hard worker, Jean knows
only 1 speed, and that’s full out. Apart from being a top chef, he is
also the man to take you on some exciting hikes in the Richtersveld as
he is an experienced rock climber.
ARC has many freelance guides: Mark Evans, Schalk
van der Merwe, Wickus Brink, Chris McFarlane, Bion Wortmann and Silke
Probst are all used in busy times and loves the Richtersveld and its
many facets. All experienced paddlers; they love entertaining, creating
spectacular bush cuisine and above all, share their knowledge of the
area with their fellow travellers
Our company’s mission is focussed on making the boundless beauty of Africa accessible to everyone and garnering a sense of proactive conservation and appreciation for the environment.

African Rafting Canoe Trails image is one of a caring, knowledgeable and trustworthy friend rather than a big, cold, profit chasing corporation.
